Big Ideas in Action: Regionally based asbestos awareness training
An idea that has been put into action by Regional EnviroScience is providing training to regional business in asbestos awareness. Regional EnviroScience is a regionally based hazardous materials and environmental management consultancy, head quartered in Dubbo NSW and founded by WRI Chair, Juliet Duffy in 2008. Juliet has 30+ years experience in protecting people from hazardous substances.
In regional areas natural occurring asbestos is very prevalent, so information on how to identify these risks is important. This is why Regional Enviroscience created an online course that is easy for both workers and organisations to complete in order to protect themselves.
Australia has the highest rate of mesothelioma in the world and over 4000 deaths each year are attributable to asbestos exposure.
Australian legislation requires employers to train anyone who is working around asbestos to complete training. This training provides the skills and knowledge to understand the risks of asbestos, to be able to safely identify asbestos and to recognise the common occurrences and risks of contamination. The course is complete with the latest up-to-date information and legislation with courses meeting compliance requirements in all states, excluding ACT.
Regional Enviroscience work with government, commercial and universities who look to them for the highest level of technical and scientific skills. As a regionally based firm they have a solid understanding of the challenges and expectations of rural and regionally based organisations and clients who are dealing with sensitive issues.
Regional Enviroscience are a silver sponsor of Big Ideas for Regional NSW.
