WRI's team of analysts and associates work with local, State and Federal governments, and regional development agencies, to develop regional and industry profiles, population studies, program evaluations, and assist with community and strategic planning.  A sample of our work is set out below.


Regional Development Australia Far South Coast commissioned WRI to assess the transport landscape in the Shoalhaven, Eurobodalla and Bega Valley local government areas within the context of the implications and impacts transport linkages have with access to employment. 

Labour Force and Capabilities Report and a Practical Resources Guide

Bega Valley Shire Council commissioned WRI to assess the current and future needs of jobs and skills in the Council's region.

Motor Racing Benefits to Economy and Tourism

WRI was commissioned by the Bathurst Regional Council to evaluate the employment, economic and tourism impacts of motor racing events on the regional economy.

Regional Profile and Opportunities

Regional Development Australia commissioned WRI to prepare a regional profile, and to analyse data to identify business opportunities to support economic and population growth and its regional planning.

Economic Contribution of Recreational Fishing

WRI partnered with the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security at the University of Wollongong to develop a cost effective method to measure the economic contribution of recreational fishing to the NSW economy for the NSW Department of Primary Industries.

Industry Profiles and Forecasts

Regional Development Australia Central West commissioned WRI to prepare a set of industry profiles, and to analyse a variety of materials to prepare projections for industry and employment growth to support their regional strategic plan.

Climate Change Adaptation Program Evaluation

The Central NSW Council’s (Centroc) That’s a Good Idea! (TAGI) Climate Adaptation program was funded through a grant provided by the NSW Environmental Trust’s Urban Sustainability Program. WRI was engaged to undertake evaluation activities over the course of the whole program and to provide a final review. A Monitoring and Evaluation Framework was developed to guide the evaluative work. 

Special Rate Variations

Maitland Council commissioned WRI to undertake a special rate variation assessment, incorporating consultation with the community to determine service expectations.

Modelling a Socio-Economic Zone

WRI was commissioned by the Barwon Darling Alliance to develop a socio-economic zone model to promote employment growth (especially for targeted groups such as Indigenous people and the long term unemployed) and to increase business investment in the region.
