WRI is seeking an entrepreneurial and enthusiastic person to lead a small, not-for-profit, regional economic research organisation. WRI operates to generate funds for a charitable trust that conducts public-purpose research into the economic development of inland Australia.
Our clients include government, regional development agencies, leading charities and not-for-profits, universities, research centres, and private businesses. WRI is a frequent source of information and guidance for policymakers, clients and the news media in the regions.
We are looking for someone who has been a successful consultant who feels that they are ready to take charge of a strategy as CEO.
You are a skilled in leading consulting engagements and projects across multiple sectors to support our clients to make evidence-based decisions. Previous experience in economic research will be highly valued, or a commitment and capacity to acquire the same.
You will have demonstrated P&L experience and a track record of increasing sales. You place clients at the centre of everything you do.
You are comfortable with being a media spokesperson for the organisation, as well as engaging face to face with clients across rural and regional areas.
The salary will be commensurate with the nature of the company and your experience, with performance bonuses linked to your contribution to growth in the company’s revenue and meeting client and stakeholder needs.

Casual and Contract Research Consultants
WRI is a not-for-profit think-tank based in regional Australia which conducts social and economic research to support better decision-making and stronger investment in sustainable regional development.
WRI also provides a social and economic research consultancy services to support sound infrastructure investments, successful grant applications, business case development, cost-benefit analysis, economic impact analysis and program evaluations.
Established as a charitable, not-for-profit company, WRI was founded by regional stakeholders to support the development of rural and regional communities through the provision of sound social and economic research. WRI funds this primary public purpose through the provision of high quality consulting services to businesses, government and the communities principally in regional Australia.
WRI is looking for experienced researchers and independent contractors/consultants interested in undertaking regional development research and analysis on a casual or contract basis.
Ideally, you would have a background in economic, social or market research (qualitative and quantitative) and have had experience in managing your own research projects.
We are particularly interested in consultants who have qualifications and demonstrated experience in working effectively with clients to deliver:
- Input Output Analysis and Modelling
- Cost Benefit Analysis
- Market Research and Surveys
- Grant Applications
You will have strong written and verbal communication skills, be flexible in working on different projects in a small team and be able to work to research deadlines.
